Re: [BLUG] Tommorow's meeting will rock!

Unfortunately, the speed limit imposed by my mode of transportation
make my attendance impractical. However, from your description, I wish
I could make it.

Have a great meeting!

Re: [BLUG] Tommorow's meeting will rock!

I'm out of the country and am quite sad that I won't be there at the
next BLUG meeting.

Is there a chance that anyone would be interested in videotaping the
meeting for later viewing?

[BLUG] Tommorow's meeting will rock!

Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but it should be better than just
screen and vim. I plan on using some entertaining multimedia content
and also include some demonstrations of mencoder and kino, the video
editing programs. I'll show you how to rip DVD video in Linux. And also
I will show a bit of Blender, the 3D editor/raytracer. What you'll find
interesting is in how these are related to screen and vi. I'm also
going to try to bring my new workstation from home.

Please try to make it. Thanks.

I have a projector, but you'd have to come to Indy to get it :)

Re: [BLUG] Projector

I can still borrow work's projector--I just can't be at the meeting.

Someone would have to meet me at Ivy Tech at shortly-before-6:00 on
Tuesday, and we'd have to make arrangements for me to get the
projector back that night as well.

Hopefully, there's an easier way, but if not, and we can coordinate
it, it's an option...

[BLUG] Projector

Anyone have a projector that I can use tommorow night? Preferably one
that does 1280x1024 or 1024x768. My normal source went on vacation and
decided to lock the cabinet.

Re: [BLUG] VMWare Workstation and full virtualization

Game company executives.

Game players would prefer the game come out "when it's done", as
opposed to "in time for Christmas".

If anyone played Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords,
you'll know what happens when executives decide it's better to put a
game out in time for X-mas than it is to put it out when it's done.
Now that was a game that *could* have been amazing. My fiancee got
into it so much I had to fight her for my turn (much, you might
remember, like Neverwinter Nights, and now Elder Scrolls: Oblivion).

But once I got pretty far into it, I started noticing some jarring
inconsistencies and storyline clipping. One whole world was designed
badly enough that it was possible to play it in such a way as to drive
the game into an unfinishable state. It was disgusting not because it
was badly made, but because it was so well made, and then wrapped up
so sloppily on deadline.

It was like if they'd cut a third of The Matrix out, right near the end.

Anyhoo, enough of that rant.

Simón

P.S. This is why I think game ENGINES would do awesomely well to be
Open Source, but I find it hard to imagine really good game design
will come out of an Open Source model. I think Civilization IV is the
one game that has come closest to the mark.

P.P.S. Oh, yeah, enough of that rant.
