[BLUG] looking for a used laptop

Does anyone have an older laptop they might be willing to trade?

I have an AMD Sempron 2800, 512mb ram, nvidia 5200 fx, dvd-rom, WD 320gb SATA hd, and a KDS 19' CRT monitor I'd be willing to trade for some sort of used laptop.

If anyone wants to try to strike a deal with me, please let me know.

Thanks!
Ben

Re: [BLUG] Ubuntu Question

Dan,

Yeah, I would have suggested installing the LAMP server first and then
doing a "sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop" from the cli after
that, but it seems you ALMOST followed that anyhow.

My guess is you installed edubuntu-desktop instead, accidentally?

Regardless,

Welcome to Ubuntu!

[BLUG] Neverwinter Nights (not NWN 2)

I was just talking with Chris Walker about how we'll be playing
Neverwinter Nights in about a month. For those of you that like playing
RPG games, this is one of the best there is IMHO. And it works in Linux.
It is still a lot of fun even with just 2 people playing. Actually, once
you get over 6 people, you're better off having special modules to play
in. Its pretty good for single player games too. Its 5 years old now,
but there are a lot of people still playing it.

Anyways, I thought I'd mention that probably the best way to get NWN
is just to buy the Diamond edition (which comes with all the expansion
packs) on ebay, where is it sold for as low as $10.99 "buy it now".
Although you won't really need the expansion packs, we might be able to
play one or two modules that use them if more people have them.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=Neverwinter+Nights+diamond&category0=

Then those of you who are interested would have your copies by June
2nd, which is when we'll play that first. We'll play it several times
probably so you'll get use out of it.

RE: [BLUG] Ubuntu Question

Jeremy & Mark,

24 hours later and it everything has worked like a charm. Ubuntu gets a few
minus marks for their documentation but they have Red Hat beat on package
update integration. For what it is worth, installing the LAMP version first
and the adding the desktop seemed to be the easier choice (but somehow I
ended up with the edubuntu gnome instead of the default).

Thanks for the help guys,

Dan

| If there are some server-like features that you want during
|installation on your desktop machine, like LVM partitioning, then you
|should try the alternate CD. To get the alternate CD from ubuntu.com,
|you have to check a box down below the "Start Download" button.
|
| But Jeremy is right, if you install the desktop version, you could add
|any server software you wanted to later.
