Re: [BLUG] Update Hauppauge Video Capture

Hey Peter,

Have you thought about booting up off of a KnoppMyth CD, just to see
what this OS will do as far as detecting and setting up your card for you?

If it works this way, you should be able to copy the config, no?

[BLUG] Update Hauppauge Video Capture

Hello,

I verified the card works (installed windows XP). Played video in VHS and
displayed. Played camcorder cassette (attached s-video and video input
(yellow connector) displays (no sound).

So good enough in windows (to get started).

Using xawtv and the video (video signalling come in tuner 1) test - nothing.
Changing inputs - no good.

For my first foray in linux multimedia I am not doing very well.

Finding the manual for my Panasonic palmcorder Mini DV does not provide any
helpers and I am beginning to wonder if the s-video is any good.

I have an iDV port, a s-video in/out, A/V IN/OUT which goes into the
video/audio video connectors on the vhs.

xawtv -hwscan gives:

This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.20-16-generic)
looking for available devices
port 60-60
type : Xvideo, image scaler
name : SIS 300/315/330 series Video Overlay

port 61-76
type : Xvideo, image scaler
name : SIS 315/330 series Video Blitter

/dev/video0: OK [ -device /dev/video0 ]
type : v4l2
name : Hauppauge WinTV PV
flags: capture tuner

I start up xawtv with the video cassette running (tuner is set to Tuner 1),
play around with the settings - no success. The default (per man)
is /dev/video0 so why no display?

Any helpers - appreciated.
Thank you,
Peter Brown

Well, I've been thinking it might be best to stop peeing while standing
up, as it is a lot messier this way. I believe in peeing while standing
up, but I can't say it works better this way.

Am I the only one that has struggled with coming to grasps with such
thoughts?

Re: [BLUG] Trying something new

No, I had to go into Windows to run some hard drive diagnostic thing
because appearently hard drives are less realiable than they used to be
(even though I bought the high duty cycle drives just 4 months ago), two
of them have already started failing.

Anyways, its not often that I'm in Windows and so I have to stay in
Windows for a few hours and work on other things. I forgot that its not
all bad.

And besides, zealot wars are good for you once in a while to reaffirm
what you stand for or question it. In the end, I'm for what works best,
not what I believe in.
