Re: [BLUG] Great meeting tonight, some notes

I agree, this was an especially great meeting (and thanks for the pizza,
Mark!). Socializing and what-not is always among my favorite
activities; given the opportunity, I'll generally talk until somebody
punches me in the mouth. I dug meeting at the SUSO offices- it was nice
not having a set end-time.

Here is a small addendum to Mark's set of links:
The "Fluck Mill Road" Wunderground Weather Station is run from an iMac
(last I heard) at fellow a geek's farmhouse:
http://www.wunderground.com/US/IN/Bloomington.html

Somebody had talked about (or asked about?) the VMWare Virtual
Appliances. VMWare has a *ton* of community-supplied, pre-built virtual
machines for use with VMWare Player and VMWare server. All you gotta do
is download and start having fun. There are all sorts of things,
including many linux distros. My personal favorites are the Squid proxy
and Trixbox (an Asterisk phone system appliance):

The Asterisk (FOSS PBX phone system) website:

Digium makes (and sells) Linux-based Asterisk hardware and such, for
those desiring a turn-key sort of thing:

[BLUG] Great meeting tonight, some notes

I think people like the meet n' greet format better than a
presentation. It gave a lot of people a chance to talk to each other
across the table about a variety of topics and socialize. 13 people
showed up. It was cramped, but fun.

I wanted to sent out the list of programs that I remember we talked
about just in case someone wanted to look them up:

Cacti (http://www.cacti.net)
MRTG
Nagios (http://www.nagios.org)
Blender (http://www.blender.org/)

http://www.blenderartists.org/

http://wiki.blender.org/

http://www.elephantsdream.org/

http://www.blender-materials.org/

http://www.plumiferos.com/

http://suso.suso.org/xulu/Blender

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=deltaray3

Yafray, POV-Ray, Wings3D and K3D
GIMP
Cluster SSH (cssh)
Xen, system virtualization
dd sparse images
VMware workstation & ESX Server
Amanda, backup software
Bakula
IRC and X-Chat
Asterisk, PBX system
Ekiga, soft phone

Other Websites mentioned:

http://www.irtc.org/

http://www.kychn.org/

http://www.hackaday.org/

http://weather.suso.org/

http://www.weatherbug.org

http://weather.weatherbug.com/

http://www.bloomingpedia.org/

http://www.straight2yourdoor.com/

I'm sure I left some stuff off of here. We all talked about a lot.

Re: [BLUG] Get together tonight

It isn't placing knitting above Linux, it is placing my wife
above Linux. -- There's a big difference. :)

I hope it went smoothly!

Cheers,
Steven

You're placing knitting above Linux? What has BLUG come to?

Unlike Steven, I don't knit. I'll be there. ;)

I wish I could make it, but alas, it conflicts with a knitting class
I'm taking with my wife.

I hope everyone has fun!
