[BLUG] I am at the library now and we don't have the room for tonight.

I will be a Nick's wih a maroon and cream hoosier jacket (I know, I know, too much bling...what is wrong with red and white :)  I will check back at about 7 or so.

I reserved room 1B at the MoCo Library (and I can bring a projector, no
problem). Come to think of it, I haven't received conformation from
them. I'll check tomorrow.

Hey, thanks for the link.

I've started playing around with Mnemosyne to beat some simple facts
into my head.

So far so good. I've knocked some cobwebs out surrounding my Japanese
reading skills, and reinforced my knowledge of where all the U.S. States
are.

Was curious if anyone had tried out powertop on a laptop and if you had seen
any improvements in battery life?

Yes! I have been using powertop since quite a bit now. My machine is a Dell
Vostro 1400 running Hardy and it does seem to make a certain difference in
the battery life.
I have the powertop recommendations in a startup script which is rather
nifty than executing them each time by running PowerTop.

If you have a Nvidia card (which takes a significant share for
processor-wakeups) you could also take a look at these tips -

All-

Sorry for the late notice on this, I've had trouble (probably because of
my newbosity) getting the Library to confirm that I actually have the
meeting room reserved.

Anyway, we have (I think) meeting room 1B at the Monroe County Public
Library reserved for this coming Tuesday (May 13) at 7:00pm. I believe
we're scheduled to hear a presentation on some music software (I can't
remember the name, it's been a long weekend) from Bob Piercy (Bob- I'll
bring a projector, if you need one).

I'll also plan to (informally) discuss Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron)
with any and all interested. Bring your issues, maybe somebody will be
able to help!

Next month (June) we'll hold another informal meet-n-greet at a local
restaurant.

Have a happy Monday, and I'll hope to see you Tuesday evening.
Cooley

I very much wanted to attend this meeting as the topic is of
particular interest to me (though I think I would've enjoyed virtually all
of them). It doesn't look like, however, I'll be able to attend
(again!). I wonder if it would be possible to get this taped so that it can
be viewed later? Or a screencast with some sort of voice over? I
realize this might be too much of a pain, and that's okay. But I figured
I'd ask.
Have fun at the meeting - sounds like it's going to be a real cool one!
Matt

This reminds me of that a few lugs that do podcast there meetings and it would
be cool to see if BLUG could podcast there meetings as well.

I've heard that some of the places that have podcasted meetings apparently
suffered from it. Once the meetings would be online, attendance dropped
steadily. Then, once attendance got low enough the presentations themselves
grew steadily poorer until it all just, well, sucked.

Cheers,

[BLUG] meeting tonight

Hi,

I will be there. I have been sick lately, so I am not as prepared as I
would have liked, but I will do my best.

I will also update the wiki page (bloomingtonlinux.org) with some
information.

See you in awhile,

bob

I like the idea of the podcast. It would allow regular attendees lookup old questions, and cautious geeks feel out the club. It would also allow those of us that can't attend a chance to learn from the group.

The podcast could be delayed until a week before the next meeting. This way the information is still be available, but it would seem like an archive instead of a replacement. (Imagine the delay between Movie theater release and DVD release.) It's appearance would also act as a reminder that a meeting is just a week away.

It would also be nice to see meeting notes. That way those out of attendance could see what we are missing. Those in attendance could get links, config files, and all the trivial details that end up being critical.

Jeffery
