Re: [BLUG] NOV meeting topic

I have been running linux on SPARC for a while now (suse 7, debian and
gentoo). It runs great on old ultra's, sound even works. It would be
interesting to see hypervisor on a sparc.

Re: [BLUG] NOV meeting topic

Perhaps for a meeting taking place in Dec. or later I could do a
presentation on Linux on SPARC - Ubuntu has a version that will run
natively on SPARC (see much more at

http://www.linux.com/base/ldp/howto/SPARC-HOWTO.html). At my workplace,
for our web-based application servers they've invested in a tricked-out
Sun Blade T6320 with 8 cores - 64 threads, 64 GB memory, 176 Gbps I/O
throughput, 10 GbE networking.
As for the virtualization capabilities - Hypervisors, Xen and Solaris
containers - kicks the snot out of VMware in terms of building a
virtual web farm. You can also mix & match with Linux, Solaris, Windoze
in the same chassis.
I'd like to help get this set up at work and then have the results
become part of a future presentation.

course to meet other people and help them with their bugs.

Linux
Bash
Apache
PHP
Perl
MySQL
PostgreSQL
SSH
SNMP
DNS
Postfix/SMTP
Courier IMAP/POP3
SSL
SNMP
Nagios (service monitoring)

Just wanted to throw these out there as ideas for things you might have
questions about but don't really think of asking about it.
