Re: [BLUG] [OT] Software for Ivy Tech students

Removing the sticker frrom the equipment renders it invalid. It is
hard to remove anyhow. An OEM license can only be used on the
equipment for which it was purchased.

I believe the numbers on those stickers are all one would need to
install/register/whatever Windows.

IANAL so I won't comment on the possible (il)legalities.

And, FWIW, Linux is most definitely included in the curriculum of
certain courses at Ivy Tech.

Re: [BLUG] [OT] Software for Ivy Tech students

Hi.

I recently got a new laptop, to replace one whose graphic card is broken, and I don't use Windows. The guy in the store told me that I could sell the stickers in the bottom of my laptops. I didn't understand him well: is that sticker all what you need to get a distribution of windows? I don't even know how much I can get from them, so any Ivy Tech student could fool me easily. Let me know if you want the stickers. On the other side, I agree that Linux should be taught in schools, and not Windows.

Ignasi.

As if it has to be said.

Sounds like a great opportunity to spring Ubuntu and Wine or
Virtualbox on them.

It is, and I just saw a ticket for you. Give me a few and you'll get
an automated e-mail with login details.

Sort of. Ivy Tech does not have a deal like IU does that covers all
students for MS software. The Bloomington campus has something called
the MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN-AA) that allows certain studetns and
faculty enrolled in computer courses to download MS operating systems
and programming software, etc, but not the MS Office suite.

The Follet bookstore sells Windows and MS Office at a discount, and I
think they can be charged to financial aid, but check with the
bookstore to be sure.

There's also the Microsoft Ultimate Steal site:
http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx,
which is not free but is a very steep discount over retail price.

Re: [BLUG] [OT] Software for Ivy Tech students

I'm an Ivy Tech student myself and I was curious about this as I am an
IU alum and loved all the free software. They pointed me to this site,
which offers discounted but not free software.

http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/default.aspx

They also said if the student is a CIS (Computer Information Systems)
student, they can ask the department for a username to access some
software online, but he said it was mostly programming suites and
Microsoft server OSs.

Good luck!

I have been asked to rebuild a computer for a new Ivy Tech student, and
was wondering if they have access to Microsoft operating systems and
software similar to the arrangement that IU students, faculty, and staff

enjoy. The student didn't know herself.

They don't.

Her best option is here:

We came close to 1000 days recently, but "lost" the machine due to
some power issues.

[BLUG] Extreme uptime

Woohoo!

[mkrenz@sandbox ~]$ uptime
13:59:12 up 1002 days, 5:11, 1 user, load average: 0.07, 0.02, 0.00

And this machine does a fair amount of stuff. I'm curious to see what
will happen at 1024 days. Anyone know?
