Re: [BLUG] FW: Ohio LinuxFest 2007 - Registration Open

Right, what I'm trying to figure out is why they show up as invalid in G-mail.

FireGPG sez: "The first signature of this mail is not valid!"

Re: [BLUG] FW: Ohio LinuxFest 2007 - Registration Open

It says "Good signature" which means it is valid and good.

It is untrusted because no one you trust has signed the signature to
validate its authenticity.

There's a circle of trust thing going on. A key, in isolation, can not
be trusted.

Any public key passed over the Internet in an unsigned manner should not
be trusted. Keys should only arrive either (1) in person, as in a key
signing party, or (2) signed by someone you have personally exchanged
keys with at a key signing party.

Cheers,
Steven Black

Fire GPG doesn't even see your signature, but Enigmail in TB says:

OpenPGP Security Info

UNTRUSTED Good signature from Michael C. Schultheiss <schultmc@debian.org>
Key ID: 0xA3F9E30E / Signed on: 05/31/2007 11:37 AM

Guess I should've Googled *before* asking. =)

Well, that seems to have worked (can verify in Outlook), at least for
me... so let me ask this... Does anyone know of a way to make
Thunderbird send deleted messages to a folder besides the local Trash
folder? The main reason I don't use TB "full-time" is because of this
and the way it screws up synchronization with my Blackberry. If I
delete a message and it goes into the Deleted Items folder on the
Exchange Server, it'll be deleted appropriately on my handheld. If I
delete it using Thunderbird, it doesn't seem to notice that it's been
deleted.

It seems to - I was able to verify the signature on this message, but
not the previous messages.

No idea... I can't verify it in Outlook ("no valid openpgp data found")
but it shows a good signature using Thunderbird. This message is being
sent using TB as well, so I'll see if that makes a difference.

True... not sure what's up. Thought it might be something funky with my
Outlook + GnuPG settings, but if I send an off-list e-mail to another
e-mail account and open the message using Thunderbird over IMAPS, it
shows a good signature...

You can set your default key in your gpg.conf. Going from memory, but I
think it's just:

default-key XXXXXXXX

Re: Key Server WAS: Re: [BLUG] FW: Ohio LinuxFest 2007 - Registration Open

I am kind of scared of a key server. A few years back there was a hole
found in PGP keys that would allow (the ADK problem maybe), but it
rendered the keys on most keyservers untrustworthy. While I love the
idea of more ppl using encryption, it needs to be trustworthy.

Anyways, just my two cents.

Thank you,

Re: [BLUG] FW: Ohio LinuxFest 2007 - Registration Open

Impressive. Someone had quite a bit of time on there hands there...

What would be REALLY impressive would be programming it to scan
sheet-music on one pass and then play it on a second pass.

Or modern art: have the scanner actually scanning a page of Fur Elise
sheet music while it plays Fur Elise, and display the output (it's
moving back and forth so the distortions might be neat.)

Is it ironic that I think they had too much time on their hands, and
then immediately think up ways they could continue to spend time on
this?
