At the risk of sounding like a phanboi, may I suggest you take a look at
SimplyMEPIS? It is essentially Debian Lenny/Stable with KDE, a custom
kernel with added hardware support, several unique config tools, tweaked
and massaged and made as "user friendly" as can be achieved.

It's offered in two versions: v8.0 uses KDE3.5, while the recently
released v8.5 uses KDE4. The directly offered and maintained apps might
be a bit stale for some people's tastes, but there is a small but very
active and knowledgeable community that maintains its own separate repos
and offers up the latest and greatest.
