I'd be interested to know if the hardward all lasts. I have known too many people whose Dell laptops haven't held up very long, so I have always been to afraid to try one out. Other than that, I am glad they have given a nod to Linux. I hope more follow suit. I do think the Thinkpad is a better bet quality wise.

Not that mine is going to be any better. I am running Gutsy on a Gateway. Everything works now: that took several dist upgrades. I started with it brand new with 6.06 and kept going up. I didn't get sound until 7.04 and finally got broadcom wireless working with 7.10. So now everything works including the built in card reader, and I am pretty happy with it. But I don't know how these hold over the years.
