[BLUG] open-source twitter workalike

Check out Identica. (http://identi.ca/)

The software (called Laconica) is open-source (AGPL) and you can
cross-subscribe to users on other instances of the same software. You
can also use XMPP (aka Jabber and Gtalk) to follow your subscriptions
and post to your feed, a service which Twitter discontinued a while ago.
Laconica also has a Twitter-compatible API, so you can use
Twitter-oriented applications on Identica with little modification.

The creator of Laconica also wrote up the Open Microblogging
specification, so you can write your own implementation in a different
language if you like. I know there's already one implementation using a
microsoft stack, but I haven't heard much about it. There are Laconica
installations at http://army.twit.tv/ and http://linuxoutlaws.net/. Fog
Creek uses Laconica internally because they want the benefits of Twitter
for business use without sending sensitive information out to a third
party.

So take a look at Identica and tell me what you think.
