[BLUG] WoW and Wine

Just wanted to give an update. Believe it or not but I've played
World of Warcraft under Wine on Ubuntu Linux for a little over a month
now (probably played about 50 hours) and I think its only crashed once.
There also aren't any noticeable differences between running it under
Windows or running it under Linux. All the sound and graphics seem to
work ok. Its very impressive how well it works.

The only thing I haven't been able to do is I wanted to try running
this 3rd party application that uploads your data to a wiki-like site
(wowhead.com), but that wouldn't run properly under Wine.

Anyone else on the list play WoW, either under Windows or through
Wine? My character is Deltaray and he is on the Oxynia realm.

Re: [BLUG] Amarok

Greetings, Steve. I'm relatively new to this whole Linux thing myself.

Interested in trying something different? Me, I'm a KDE fan, and have
found MEPIS to be the best out there as far as stability, usability for
newcomers, and hardware detection. It's built on top of Debian stable,
with a custom kernel and an implementation of KDE that's just plain
sweet. Amarok just works. As does most everything else.

MEPIS v7 is the latest current version, but v8 is in development and
will probably be released in a couple months. The developer takes his
time -- he's from the school that believes it's best to release *when*
*it's* *ready*.

Re: [BLUG] Amarok

Thanks for the advice.  I'm using exaile at the moment.  It does what I need it to do, but it doesn't look as pretty.  I read on the bug fix page for Amarok that they want to fix the bug for the stable release of Amarok 2.0.  I don't know why Amarok is such an epic fail on Mint.  I used it on Ubuntu just fine.  Also, did you have the problem where the font for the GNOME login fields for your username, password, and options fields (sessions, system, etc.) were huge?

amarok. Your in gnome and its a kde application try looking at exaile.
There are alot of plugins for it too. I fought with it for a year or so
and gave up. or try the kde edition of mint 5 its pretty good.

[BLUG] Amarok

I'm running Linux Mint at the moment and loving it.  The one problem that I can't fix is that when I try to start Amarok, it logs me out.  I get the initial Amarok load screen and then I get a black screen, then a black screen with lines of code, then the GNOME login screen.  Synaptic says my installed version is 2:1.4.9.1-0ubuntu3+medibuntu1.  I can't really seem to find any information about it on either Ubuntu or Linux Mint forums.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [BLUG] N00b

here is a random, long shot suggestion:  are there any Linux web-based OS's?  If so, is there any interest in that?  Does anyone have any familiarity?  I haven't even Googled it to see if there is such a beast, but it could be an interesting topic if there is.

Re: [BLUG] N00b

Welcome, Steve!  Well, as of now the meeting will still be at the Library on the second Tuesday of the month.

Thing is, I don't have a presentation lined up, and I'm super busy right now, so I'm not sure what we'll be talking about.  Does anybody have a presentation already lined up that they'd like to give, or maybe a couple of people have mini-presentations?

Hello everyone.  I just started using Linux again and wanted to know when the next BLUG meeting is.  I saw in an earlier e-mail that the date might get changed.
